The following students: Alfredo Castillo (Civil Engineering) and Benjamin Gelid (Electromechanical Engineering of FCEYT (Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Tecnologias) are preparing to begin the international scholarship process in the countries like Portugal and Italy, respectively. These scholarships were awarded by Erasmus Mundus – Cruz del Sur and consist in accomplishing an academic period of one year, in host countries.
About this international experience, Benjamin explained that it was an objective since the beginning of his university career: “since when I entered in the university that I have this objective and since the second semester I have been looking for international scholarships, but have decided to first advance with my career at UNSE, now that I am at the 5th year, I would like to fulfill this objective that is so much cherished.” It must be emphasized that Benjamin Gelid is in the Honor Hall of Fame of the National University of Santiago del Estero and has escorted the flag of the Province.
Meanwhile Alfredo, was motivated by his fellow students, he notes that: “last year, after the workshop given by the College in which there were shared the experiences of those who had previously received a scholarship abroad, I have been very interested to pursue this program. But I thought that based on my GPA I would not be eligible; in any event, my friends and professors - especially the Vice Dean Ing. Basualdo, motivated me to present myself and I resulted as a winner.”
The enrollment in this International Scholarship program has accessible requirements; nonetheless once candidates are pre – selected, they are evaluated and selected to participate in this scholarship program, thanks to a consortium created by the offices of International Relations of nineteen Universities that have joined this Forum.
At the beginning of this new process, our students have demonstrated their expectations, Benjamin stated: “I have a great interest to know these new realities, and compare them with our own; re-ensure our knowledge, and to make a highly objective analysis. I am interested to how education is functioning in those countries and will take classes that are not offered here in Santiago del Estero and conduct visits in various plants. Also I will have the possibility to write my thesis abroad and I have the co-director of my thesis already designated as well as the other director here in UNSE.”
Alfredo stated that: “once arriving to Portugal he will take an advanced course of Portuguese in order to improve his communications skills, after being accredited and organize better my daily routine, I will also try to practice some sports. Also I will reach out to student organizations in the host university and generate new contacts.” Alfredo and Benjamin are members of the Student organizations that have been established at the respective departments where they are studying.
The College has other students that are preparing to pursue international scholarship programs, to all of them it wishes many successes in the experience that they are embarking abroad which will enrich their professional and personal experiences.
The internationalization process during the university education is highly enriching, this is why UNSE offers numerous scholarships to students so they all can apply and ripe the fruits of international experiences.
