Although this center is established in the XXI century, change is a permanent occurrence that affects all areas of human activity; new ideas and perspectives are flourishing in the field of education.

There are emerging diverse educational models and proposals in order to provide sustainability to learning that is becoming every time much more complicated and much more accessible in order to develop new professional competencies.

The model of distance education and its new generation based in technologies known as e-learning or blended learning, increase the flexibility of learning while making it less dependable on time and space for enrolled students. These new models allow the creation of personalized learning channels that are adequate to necessities and expectations of every person.

Moreover, it is observed a growing need to integrate the world of study with the working environment, in order to reduce the gap between the formal education and professional practice, improving the transference of abilities, attitudes and knowledge.  In this complicated context, new technologies of information and communication (NTIC) intervene in Education, at the work place and in the daily life.

The Faculty of Exact Sciences and Technologies at the National University of Santiago del Estero, is profoundly immersed in the processes of change, that respond to the dynamic national needs, it deals with placing a special emphasis on the factors that determine new forms of teaching in order to obtain better results in the accomplishment of its priorities, objectives and goals.

Proposals of change, that are highly organized due to the PROMEI Project, provide a response to the commitment that the College has embraced with society in order to reach a greater number of readers, also to generate mechanisms that ensure quality and efficiency in the fulfillment of its substantial functions.  In this context, considering the relevant use of NTIC in the diverse modalities of education, and above all in the semi-present forms and distance education; will address the requirement suggested by the Director’s office of PROMEI project, that was elaborated under the denominated project “Creation of a Distance Education Center for the College of Exact Sciences and Technologies” a project that was approved by the Dean’s Office through resolution Nr. 0245/09.

With these priorities in mind and a dynamic framework, was created the Digital University Center as the responsible entity that will manage and develop academic programs within the distance education and blended learning formats.


The Mission of Digital University Center is to contribute towards strengthening of academic programs, through the support provided by professors, research and extension, at the same time provide support for continuing and permanent education programs, in the application of distance education methodologies and the appropriate use of technologies of information and communication in the academic programs and training modules of the College. 


  • Strengthen innovative educational practices and the development of a better learning environment headed towards flexibility as well as improve the quality of teaching processes and training of students, professors and alumni. 
  • Promote the development of competencies destined to the use and application of technologies of information and communication as well as teaching modalities that are non – conventional (semi-presence and distance education) in the educational process. 
  • Strengthen attitudes, abilities and capacity for self teaching, significant learning techniques, and independent - autonomous learning. 
  • Stimulate the critical reflection about the professors’ experience and the new roles of educational process agents.
  • Promote development in areas of multidisciplinary research.
  • Promote projects of research and development related to Distance Education.
  • Promote research that measure and improve the quality of services offered by the center.
  • Strengthen the inter-institutional and intra-institutional cooperation through digital and virtual environments.


  • Provide a technological assistance on the training activities in the undergraduate and graduate levels, training and academic improvement of professors, students and alumni.
  • Ensure training services, update and practice in distance education.
  • Collaborate and provide advice in the production of didactic materials and design of public relations’ printed materials in relation to technologies of information and communication.
  • Generate virtual spaces that bring together dialogue and interchange of ideas about educational experiences.
  • Shape a team work environment for research and training projects.
  • Propose research investigation in the area of distance education.
  • Organize virtual events for the exchange of experiences and results of investigations in the area of Distance Education.
  • Establish relations with other centers and alliances of Distance Education in the region and abroad.
