Thursday, August 6, 2015

On Friday July 31st was organized the III anNual meeting of the Council of Deans of Engineering of NOA (CODINOA), in the headquarters of El Zanjon.  In this event participated Deans and Secretaries of the Colleges in National Universities of Jujuy, Salta, Catamarca, Tucuman and Santiago del Estero.  In this occasion, was also organized a workshop for Professors entitled: Towards a Learning Model based on Competencies in Higher Education,” under the moderation of Eng. Gustavo Lores of the National University of Jujuy.

To inaugurate this workshop, Carlos Humberto Sabio, the Dean of the University of Catamarca; Gustavo Lores, Dean of the University of Jujuy; Sergio Jose Pagani of the University of Tucuman, Hector Ruben Paz of the College of UNSE and Vice Dean of the College of Agriculture and Agro-Industry (UNSE) Jose Maidana, gave the welcome address.

In his opening statement, Dean Hector Ruben Paz gave a summary of the Origin of this Council and stated: “I want to recall the high importance of this Council of Deans which has been active for over eleven years in order to strengthen and improve all the actions that are implemented in the Universities of NOA. I would like to remember the foundational memorandum, because I think that the actions that CODINOA during these years, have been expanded, and we are eight colleges of engineering that are working on these issues.  We have seen a growth in membership from five to eight Colleges of Engineering, and we are ripping the fruits of the hard work realized and the efforts taken by each one of us.

In his statement, Dean Pagani, coordinator of CODINOA, expressed “it gives me a great pleasure to see the great quantity of people that are participating in this gathering. CODINOA was established as a need, with the spirit of a team work, faced with the reality of accreditations, that for all was a new concept.  It has been an important and transcendent decision that has taken many years, which has to do with team work and cooperation, and that all our Colleges bring on the table our strengths and are exceeding our weaknesses.  The objective is to bring together a team that could benefit all colleges. New challenges are waiting to be addressed by all for us, and that is to face these new layers of methodology, Competency based Learning, and that is what calls all of us to work as a consolidated team.  First to become informed, thanks to Eng. Lores, who will explain more about this topic and later to think among ourselves, how to deal with such a new path that we are determined to proceed forward, because we believe that it will be good to all institutions.  I believe that this type of meetings in teams are the ones that have a longevity over time, independently of the people seating here and those seating in the auditorium and such discussions are those that should be given more value.  I hope that this event will be useful to all and I believe that we will go home, after this workshop, with new information and educational practices.”

Consequently was opened the workshop, in which the work in groups took place, and there were drafted proposals based on each ones’ presentation.

In the afternoon was organized a working lunch of colleagues among the authorities who later on begun a meeting on the evolving themes of CODINOA, on one side there was a meeting among Engineering Deans, and in a parallel fashion where gathered Academic Secretaries of Science, Technology and Postgraduate Studies to discuss their challenges.  This highly proactive workshop was concluded at 17:00 hours.
